The Nike LeBron 23 “Hardwood Classic” Will Be The Only Return To Cleveland This Season

LeBron James may not be making his  return to Cleveland after all, but one of his Cavaliers-inspired Player Exclusives is.

Official images of the Nike LeBron 23 “Hardwood Classic” have surfaced ahead of its Fall release, bringing one of the LeBron’s more eye-catching Player Exclusives to retail. Originally unveiled by James during the regular season in January, the vibrant orange and royal blue colorway pays tribute to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ beloved “Hardwood Classic” uniforms from the late 1980s and early 1990s.

With James officially headed to the Philadelphia 76ers, the “Hardwood Classic” will be the only return to Cleveland happening this year. For weeks, NBA fans speculated that the four-time champion would eventually finish his career with the franchise that selected him No. 1 overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. Instead, the LeBron 23 PE inspired by one of Cleveland’s most recognizable throwback looks will make the trip back before he does.

The colorway itself draws directly from the Cavaliers’ iconic retro uniforms, pairing a bright orange upper with royal blue accents throughout the silhouette. The “Hardwood Classic” theme first appeared on the Nike LeBron 7 in 2009, becoming one of the defining releases of James’ first stint in Cleveland before he departed for Miami the following summer. It also appeared on the LeBron 4 “Birthday”, bu the Hardwood Classic moniker didn’t establish itself until 2009 with the seventh model; this also explains why the shoes will come packaged in the LeBron 7 shoebox.

Sixteen years later, Nike is revisiting the concept on the latest signature model, giving fans another chance to own a piece of Cavaliers-inspired LeBron history. Official release details have yet to be announced, but expect a drop this Fall season.
