The New Balance 983 Adds Two New Glossy Options

We’ve spilled plenty of ink on the breakneck speed of New Balance’s innovation department. Fresh silhouettes are coming out at a truly unprecedented rate for the Boston brand historically, and models that are already part of our lives issue new colorways on what feels like a weekly basis.

Yet the New Balance 983 has combined both of those things; before one pair has even hit public hands, there’s been a wave of incoming looks that already plot out future steps ahead of its October 1st debut. In sneaker terms, there’s still plenty of time to add to that already busy schedule, and New Balance again makes the most of that with two new patent leather options for the model’s pending introduction.

Now coming to light are two paired colorways, a “Dark Night/Black” and a “Cherry/Black,” already listed on NB’s Japanese site. These two function as palette swaps of one another; warm and cool hues dance atop jet black foundations for some vibrant, sensible options on the 9060-esque sneaker. Again of note is the focus on patent leather, a material choice that helps New Balance break away from their understated, “dad shoe” universe with the novel silhouette.

The New Balance 983 in these “Dark Night/Black” and “Cherry/Black” colorways is listed for October 1st via NB Japan; it’s unclear whether that date will also hold stateside.
