Air Jordan 1 Mid “Dia de Los Muertos” Design

The Air Jordan 1 Mid carries the brand’s yearly Día de Muertos theme of family, remembrance and the people who have passed.

The upper mixes Desert Dust, Particle Beige, Light Orewood Brown and Terra Blush. That reads as faded pink, tan and brown. Tumbled leather covers parts of the base, speckled overlays add texture, and ornate stitching surrounds the Swoosh in place of a plain finish.

One report ties the look to Mexican pastries such as Pan de Muerto and conchas. It describes speckled pink leather, crackled brown leather panels that resemble baked dough, a suede concha pattern on the ankle collar and a woven pale pink tongue. That report also puts the Spanish family message on the back of the tongue tag.

The storytelling sits in the details. A Xoloitzcuintli, the ancient Mexican dog breed linked to Aztec beliefs, is printed on the tongue and the insole. The Xolo was believed to walk with people through life and guide their spirits after death. The same idea carries to the box, where the lid message turns Jordan’s flight theme toward the soul.

What Is the Xolo on the Air Jordan 1 Mid “Dia de Los Muertos”?

The Xolo, short for Xoloitzcuintli, is an ancient Mexican dog breed tied to Aztec beliefs. It was said to accompany people in life and guide their spirits after death.
