Now adidas is joining the party with a climbing shoe version of the ubiquitous Samba, set to release in multiple colorways for October 2026.
Originally built with a flat bottom for indoor soccer, the Samba here remakes itself entirely with a curved Five Ten STEALTH Rubber outsole, long regarded as the best rubber in climbing (adidas acquired Five Ten back in 2011). That’s to say this is more than a stab at current footwear trends, but a serious option for the Alex Honnolds of the world. The rubber covers the majority of the toe and heel, offering equal parts grip and protection for tackling pockets.
The upper abides, or at least attempts to abide, by the model’s classic construction with a leather foundation and serrated stripes on the sides. The collar appears to be made from some sort of neoprene and extends up around the Achilles for a snug fit, bolstered by multiple pull straps on each side of the ankle.
